Craftsmanship
Every Takamine guitar is a testament to meticulous Japanese craftsmanship, built with precision, care and a deep respect for tradition. Discover what sets Takamine apart.

The art of the soundboard
For over a thousand years, spruce and cedar have been the preferred tonewoods for acoustic guitar tops, and modern bracing patterns have changed little in the past 150 years. At Takamine, we use traditional X-bracing and tailor the voicing to suit different playing styles, whether it’s delicate fingerpicking or powerful strumming.
We believe in subtle refinements that, collectively, have a significant effect on projection, tonal warmth and overtone balance. Every Takamine top is hand-braced and carefully "voiced". With decades of experience, our luthiers can tap a soundboard and instinctively hear what it still needs to optimise its vibration and tonal character.

Shape meets sound
With its elegant curves, a guitar’s body plays a vital role in shaping its acoustic voice, amplifying sound naturally across a wide frequency range. The shape directly influences tonal balance, projection and responsiveness.
Larger bodies like the dreadnought offer powerful volume and rich bass, while more compact designs such as our NEX provide a smoother, more balanced tone. Each Takamine body shape is the result of meticulous craftsmanship, ensuring not only tonal excellence but also exceptional feel and playability.

Precision you can feel
Fretting may be overlooked by many, but at Takamine, it’s a key part of what sets our guitars apart. A well-executed fret system has a major impact on feel, clarity and playing comfort.
Take a closer look at the frets on any Takamine and you'll see the result of a laser-controlled manufacturing process with an extraordinary tolerance of just 0.0025 mm. Play a few notes or chords and notice how the strings sit perfectly on the centre of each fret, producing clear, consistent tone across the neck. It’s this level of craftsmanship that elevates a good guitar to a truly exceptional one.
In the eye of the beholder
Takamine was one of the first guitar makers to push the boundaries of artistic and intricate inlay work, combining a deep understanding of materials with craftsmanship that surpasses that of many others. From rosettes to inlays and binding, our detailed approach leaves nothing to chance.
