In the early days of Takamine’s history, there was a guitar that adapted a classical body to an x-braced concert steel string with a cutaway. This model featured beautiful Hawaiian koa on its back and sides, and was an instant favourite among early Takamine players.

LTD2022 takes this early Takamine guitar as inspiration - featuring a stunning figured spruce top and gorgeous figured koa on its back and sides. For its electronics, we return to our early roots with the new CTF-2N preamplifier, which revives the warm, dynamic sound of our early FET preamp, affectionately known as the “Brownie”. The CTF-2N has that iconic sound, while incorporating the modern functions of a chromatic tuner and a versatile notch filter.

Body shape

One of the first Takamine models to feature the new Palathetic Pickup system, the PT-05E (circa 1969) also gained attention for its creative combination of classical body shape and steel strings. This breakthrough model also triggered the initial widespread distribution of Takamine guitars in Japan.

LTD2022 brings a graceful cutaway to the silhouette and distinctive concept of Takamine’s ground-breaking PT-05E.

Bracing

The back and sides of the LTD2022 are made of the finest Hawaiian Koa, carefully selected for its beautiful figured grain, alongside a solid Sitka spruce top of matching color tone.

The highest graded spruce tops and specially shaped tone bar bracings are specifically designed to express the focused, dynamic nuances desired from a smaller body guitar.

Painting and filler

The painting process begins with the application of a filler that both fills the wood conduits and colours the wood.

Hawaiian Koa is rare and comes in a wide variety of grain patterns and colours, so careful attention to the detail is essential in this process in order to achieve the perfect tone for the top, back, and sides.

By adjusting the shade and consistency of the filler, the eyes and hands of an experienced craftsman is able to achieve desirable grain pattern and colour uniformity of the natural wood, lead by their immediate inspiration and carefully honed sensibilities.

Position mark

To celebrate The 60th - diamond - anniversary of Takamine, a diamond image position-marker sits on the 12th fret. This is precisely laser cut and is inspired by the design of the traditional diamond "excellent cut”.

These small facets of select acrylic materials of various reflective qualities are precisely cut by laser and carefully crafted by hand.

Body trim

Appropraite to it's limited edition status, the LTD2022 is trimmed with gorgeous abalone inlay.

This exquisite detailing is applied to the top board and accentuates the feeling and texture of the spruce top, which is painted to compliment the colour tone of Hawaiian Koa on the back & sides.

Semi-hard case

The included SH-300A semi-hard case is made of special styrofoam that conforms to the body. A fully protective dunnage inner construction makes it strong and lightweight.

It can be carried on your back as well as in your hands, making it highly portable.
